Showday Charity
Brecon Mountain Rescue Team is a dedicated team of volunteers providing an emergency rescue service 24-hours a day, 365 days-a-year – saving the lives of those most in need, throughout mid Wales.
For more than 50 years, these dedicated volunteers have saved lives throughout mid Wales, not only on the mountains, but also in towns, rivers, and lakes across the region. We provide specialist search, medical, and rescue services, and work closely with the police, ambulance, and fire services when they receive a call for help, but are unable to find, reach or rescue those in need.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team can access places that no other service can reach. As well as finding, treating, and rescuing walkers, climbers, fell-runners, mountain bikers and kayakers, they also assist the most vulnerable in our communities - people living with dementia, people who are depressed or suicidal, flood victims, and missing adults and children.

Television presenter, Kate Humble, who lives in the region, is the Team’s Ambassador. Kate said: “The Brecon Mountain Rescue team receives no government or external funding. Its members give up their time on an entirely voluntary basis. Their dedication, professionalism and generosity has saved hundreds of lives over the years and never more so than in recent times. As someone who has spent many happy hours walking in and around the Brecon Beacons National Park, I am aware of what an enormous privilege it is to have a team such as this in the local area. The work they do for this community and its visitors is vital and invaluable”.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team is an emergency service staffed by 60 volunteers and funded entirely by donations.

Mountain rescue services are free to those in need because the teams are staffed by volunteers. However, equipment, vehicles and maintaining a headquarters all cost money, so those very same volunteers have to raise sufficient funds to maintain the service. It costs approximately £55,000 per annum to run the team.

The team cover a large area, from the Brecon Beacons National Park in the South to Welshpool in the North East and Machynlleth in the North West.

The team responds to around 120 call outs annually, with the peak season being April to September during the busy tourist season.

The work of BMRT is not restricted to rescuing climbers and hill walkers; their skills are also deployed by the police to search for vulnerable or missing persons in the community.

Coming by Car?                 Free Parking
Llangynidr is located just off the A40 between Brecon and Crickhowell and a short hop (taking in spectacular views) over Llangynidr Mountain (B4560) from the Heads of the Valleys Road (A495).
Large Vehicle or Trailer?
To avoid narrow bridges the best routes are the Talybont-on-Usk turn off from the A40, or the  B4558 from Crickhowell, signposted Llangynidr.

On Foot or By Boat?
The wonderful Brecon & Monmouthshire Canal passes right through the village and runs alongside the Show Ground.
If you live close to the canal why not consider walking the tow path. Save fuel, burn calories and reward yourself with a locally produced ice cream, burger or piece of craft!!
If you are planning a boating holiday, we promise Show Day will be a great day away from the water. There are plenty of overnight mooring points along the village section of canal.
