The main ring was also busy all day. Some improvisation from those putting on the show was needed, for example a static display of the birds of prey from Black Mountatins Falconry under cover during the heaviest rain, but then a full flying display later in the afternoon. Our thanks go to all of our main ring acts for their cooperation under difficult circumstances. Thanks also to others around the showground supporting us and entertaining the crowds, for example Dylan's Tours demonstrating the ancient Welsh art of making and using coracles.
The show was opened by Terry Walton, radio gardener, and Lynn Allbutt, local author, gardener and barefoot walker, both of whom also ran a gardeners' questions session in the demo tent. Thank you to Terry and Lynn.
We had plenty of traders on site; food stands, charities, outdoor clothing, firewood, renewable power and agricultural merchants were just some examples. Even the Ice Cream van did some business! The grand draw was very popular as always. We had an excellent array of vintage vehicles, ranging from pushbikes and motorbikes to tractors, joined this year by South Wales Land Rover Club. The sheep shearing and spinning demonstrations were as popular as ever, thank you also to those who put so much effort into these fascinating demonstrations.
Congratulations to our partners on the day - Llangynidr Garden Club's 75th Annual Show was a great success in the village hall with high numbers and quality of entries, and Bwlch & Crickhowell Young Farmers' Club's Speed Shearing event in the evening was extremely popular and proved to also work well in raising much-needed club funds.
Lots of thank yous - to the committee for all their hard work all year, to those who turned out to help set up and tear down the showground, to those working in the kitchens providing excellent food as always, to our exhibitors, traders, photographers, competitors, judges, stewards, vice presidents, sponsors, advertisers, security team, road and car park stewards, bar staff and everyone else involved - your contributions are all extemely highly appreciated and we couldn't do it without you. And of course thank you to everyone who came along on the day to make the show so enjoyable.
